You can sometimes house Betta with other fish, if they are

    - Not fin nippers

    - Aren't flashy

    - Don't have flowing fins

    - Are also tropical fish

A goldfish does not fall into the category above.

A few fish that I have heard work are Harlequin Rasbora, Ember Tetra, and Cory Cats. I currently have my Betta housed with two Nerite snails.

One thing to keep in mind while trying to add a Betta to a community tank is the tank size itself. Anything under 5 gals and you can forget about tank mates all together. It's important to have adequate space for everyone involved, which when housing with other fish should be nothing less than 10gals.

The other thing to keep in mind is that you might have a Betta that is simply too aggressive to be housed with other critters. It's important to have a back up plan/tank in case that is how it turns out.

    With Goldfish? No.

With some other small and peaceful tropical fish like Fuzzy suggests? Usually.

    No, especially not with goldfish.

The betta will attack the goldfish, and a goldfish tank is not warm enough for a betta.
