    Yes. I came of age in the eighties and I was minding my sister for short periods of time when I was only seven or eight, while my mother ran out to the store. (That's unheard of now...times have certainly changed)! And if you read the once popular Babysitter Club series, the kids in that are only twelve and thirteen.
