Has minecraft mod development changed now that Minecraft no longer needs Java to run?
I'm asking because I just recently bought a book on how to make mods for minecraft, and I want to return it if it's out of date.
The book is called Teach Yourself Minecraft Mod Development in 24 hours.
It was published in 2015.

No modding minecraft has NOT changed.
Its one of the many features microsoft want to keep, over the years microsoft have bought a lot of things, the results well we all have our opinions, but with minecraft they insist they are going to keep it as close to how it is as possible whilst adding more but not changing it in any way users would be "upset" with.
We wait and see.
The new visual studio has a minecraft SDK, but at 20GB when installed its one hefty program to download install.
(You need to read the small print to understand exactly what that SDK is and how it works for minecraft, they have not even documented it fully yet.) Works with visual studio express 2015. Which is currently in trial.

It still requires Java actually, but instead of having you install it on your machine it's bundled within the client. The game still runs on Java.
