whats wrong with my shower pump?

My shower needs a pump because it is on the same level as the hot water tank and would have very poor water pressure without one. But as of lately, whenever i turn on a hot water tap in the kitchen or bathroom the pump starts to make noise, like its struggling to start up. It keeps going making a ''chugging'' noise on and off every second or so. This lasts until i plug out the pump to kill it. What could it be? air in the system or a faulty pump??

Sounds like it could be a range of things. First thing I would check for is air in the system. Alternatively it could be a build up of gunk in the system which can happen. As you said it's as soon as you turn on the tap it's unlikely to be because there is not sufficient water in the tank to supply the pump and I believe most have auto shut off if this happens. Best to call a plumber to find out for sure!
