Funny, the entire world is socialist. It works fine. Some people just have a warped definition of what it means to be a socialist. The fact is, there are some people, who just like with capitalism, give it a bad name.

Socialism (common ownership and democratic control of the means of production) will work because people will enjoy working with each other for the common good. Even under capitalism there are millions of people who do voluntary work because they consider it worthwhile and enjoyable.

I wonder why you support the present system, where a tiny minority are much much better off then the rest of us but don't need to work at all.

There real reason why socialism doesn't work is because the government is inefficient at planning and producing goods and services. With no feedback mechanism like supply and demand to tell how much to produce, the government usually either produces too much or too little.

Not really. If you want something, it still must be produced. That is equally true under communism, socialism, and capitalism.

Socialism doesn't mean "equal pay" for everyone. Your pay would be democratically-determined as workers own and control the means of production.

Socialism is not about you working while some "lazy scrub" makes the same. "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need". It really is that simple. Pure socialism, like pure capitalism, is pretty unworkable. Hybrids, however, could work. The problem in the US is that we still have that me, me, me all about me attitude. Greed rules the day.
