As someone who has QUIT two jobs AND gotten unemployment BOTH times, I disagree with these answers...

You CAN get unemployment if you quit...IF a reasonable person in the same situation would have quit also...

So IF you had good reason to quit...Such as so much stress that you came down with medical problems, the company promised things and then refused to honor them, your position was down-graded from say a supervisory level to just a worker level, etc. etc.

Of course, I had to go through a phone interview to explain my side of things and had to keep a log of all my job hunting activity, in case I was audited..

But I have always been a very hard worker, but due to my personality, I usually get taken advantage of by employers and then, to my lasting regret, never want to look for a job while I still have one...So I end up quitting.

But, I've also only worked for 2 companies for the last 22 years!

You can apply but you will not get it. It is possible to get unemployment after being fired from a job.

you can NOT claim unemployment if you RESIGN from a job, ONLY if you are fired.

You usually can't apply if you quit.

Look on the your area's UI site to see what reasons are acceptable.

    It varies.
