While donating blood..?

While donating blood they have you squeeze a stress ball every five seconds or so. What is the purpose of it? Will doing it slower or faster change how fast your blood flows?

    It is so that the blood still pumps through your veins. Because they are extracting your blood, they need you to pump a little so that your body doesn't freak out and think it isn't getting blood to a certain area.
