I'm new to Anime what is a good Anime to start with?

The first anime I ever watched was Ouran Highschool Host Club. It's a cute, funny, simple love story at a Japanese high school. The main character, Haruhi, is there on scholarship and when she accidentally breaks a vase that was supposed to be auctioned off, she's in the debt of the host club. Since Haruhi's pretending to be boy, the host club lets her join and say if she fills a quota, her debt will be forgiven. It's a cute story with good art and music that also shows the viewer parts of Japanese culture. I'd definitely recommend it.

I would recomend waching 1 or 2 full episodes of speed racer just so you get some of the anime jokes people make.

But also I'd recomend Akira, Ghost in the shell, Macross plus, SDF macross, Kite, All over 9000 episodes of DBZ, serial experiments lain,and dirty pair. I also hear cowboy bebop and outlaw star are good.

Bleach, Yu Yu Hakasho, Tenchi Muyo, Inuyasha, Ouran High School Host Club, DBZ (Dragon Ball Z) and Dragon Ball, Zoids, Gundam Wing, Ruroni Kenshin.

Death Note. It's one of the most popular and has an interesting plot line that'll keep you hooked. If you ask any anime fan, most will say that Death Note was one of the first that they watched.

If you like Action, Gore, Adventure, Fantasy, with a really long story I recommend Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Fairy Tail

If you like Action, Gore, Adventure, Fantasy, but without a long story I recommend Tokyo Ghoul, Attack on Titan

If you like Action and Robots I recommend Evangelion, Code Geass, Knights of Sidonia

If you like Thriller, Psychological, Mystery I recommend Death Note, Monster, Steins;Gate

If you like Slice of Life, Drama, and no action. I recommend Ano Hana, Clannad, Sakurasou, White Album

If you like Slice of Life, Drama, but with Action. I recommend Madoka Magica, Angelbeats!, Monogatari Series

If you like Ecchi I recommend Highschool DxD

If you're looking for Comedy then know this. ALL anime have comedy in them. Even the most serious animes like Death Note and Tokyo Ghoul can managed to crack a good joke once in awhile.
