are VHS- C (Compact) cassettes still manufactured? I need new VHS-C cassettes for my camcorder.?

They are no longer being manufactured,

but there is some new old stock available.

A search turned some up at Tapeonline.com,

Staples, and New Egg, among others.

I recommend buying all of them that you can possibly afford

while it is still possible.

You had better hope your camcorder doesn't fail, though,

because having a lot of blank tape and nothing in which to use it

is about as bad as having a working camera and no blank media.

New HD camcorders that use SDHCs rather than tape

are available for less than $200, which is about as much

as a comprehensive overhaul of your VHS-C unit would cost.

I can still see them at ebay. 3 for 40 bucks including postage.

Just being curious, are you still using them for sentimental reasons?

I've gone through a number of cameras over the years:

Sony Betacam (what a monster)

Blaupunkt Video8

Hitachi RAMdisk/DVD-R camera (first generation camera using disk technology)

Sony Handycam DV (digital tape)

The last two still work perfectly, but I can't seem to get the motivation to use them, because, well... they're all just obsolete technology and watching a small 'square' picture on a large wide screen TV is giving me somewhat of a sinking feeling. Also, I find it such a tedious process to transfer them to modern PC formats and/or making copies. Also, the picture quality and convenience of modern flash memory based cameras is just hard to beat.

In the last couple of days, I was at Fry's Electronics and CVS. Both had VHS-C tapes for sale... I'm in northern California.

the last official manufacturer of the tape cassettes was JVC, however 15 years ago, JVC released its patent claims on the VHS system so any manufacture can produce both tape and recorders without license however, there are huge warehouse stocks available, so they are still available and sold in stores.

Why ? Old tech. Go digital.
