My father.
No, seriously. Why? Not because he was a great player or a master strategist, not even because he was a great teacher, but he was a good opponent who helped nourish a lifetime of appreciation for strategy and sportsmanship.
As the question asks for "favorite", rather than best, I'm sure most people's honest answer would be someone they know.
