My Nanny charge wants me to play for him and he watch, it's weird, HELP PLEASE?????

ok so I'm a nanny for two boys 6 and 1, we do fun stuff all day, we play outside, do crafts, play board games, i organize 'treasure hunts' around the house. so as you can imagine, I don't get a break the 9+ hours i'm there. I enjoy doing all the things I listed and don't mind the non-stop of our day but what I do mind is that the 6 year old has been wanting me to play in an odd way. He basically wants me to put on a show and he follow along. I keep trying to explain to him that we need to reverse that so he will be using his imagination because even when I try he is not happy with what i pretend. how do I get him to be content playing with me there but not me constantly entertaining him?

I work with kids and I have one that tries to get me to do that. Here s what I do:

Just tell him in a matter-of-fact way, "Nah, I don t want to play it all by myself. We can either play together, or you can play by yourself, which one sounds better?" If he refuses, then stick to your guns: "Ok, you just let me know if you decide you want to play with me. I ll be over here when you re ready." Then just ignore any pouting or whatever else he decides to do, and read a book or something until he decides whether he wants to play with you or play by himself.

    Works every time for me.

Just do a bad boring job at it so he stops asking.
