DMM or a Oscilloscope or both?

I'm thinking seriously about building a

guitar amp and later a Hi-Fi amp via kits I've researched online.

Is an Oscilloscope necessary for a build or will a decent DMM work just as well? Keep in mind I'm not designing circuits, only building them from proven plans.

If you get everything right you don't need either. but DMMs are cheap now, so why not ? You can check voltages, make sure you get diodes the right way around, trace wires.

I'm not sure what oscilloscopes cost now. You can use a computer soundcard as a slow oscilloscope with software, which would be fast enough to test an audio amp frequency response. You might need some input components, maybe an op amp as a buffer.

A signal generator is also useful, but again you can use a sound card and software to generate tones.

    A DMM should be enough.

You will need an oscilloscope only if you want or need to look at waveforms.

Your use of the phrase "just as well" indicates to me that

your knowledge of electronics in general is insufficient.
