I have a question about ssi benefits?

my mother died and my uncle adopted me. So do I get benefits? And do I get benefits each month or is it all given to me at once?

You are talking about social security survivor benefits - not SSI. Only the social security program pays benefits to dependents. SSI (supplemental security income) is not social security. SSI is the federal WELFARE program for people who are either disabled or over age 64 with limited income and resources. It does not pay benefits to dependents.

No. You are not entitled to receive social security benefits on the account of your mother because you were no longer dependent upon her for your support. If you weren't adopted by someone else at the time of her death but became adopted later, benefits are only payable if she worked and paid into the social security program long enough. If she didn't then no benefits can be paid out to anyone.

IF benefits are payable and you are under age 18 they are paid to the adult with whom you live. The intent of benefits for children is to help pay rent/mortgage, utilities and groceries and other costs in running a household. Benefits are only payable once a child is age 18 if they are a full-time high school student and unmarried OR they are unmarried and became severely disabled before age 22. Benefits are paid monthly. The first payment includes whatever benefits are due at that time.
