what if your phobias are based off of how you died in your past life?

Past life trauma can account for some irrational fears but not necessarily in a 1:1 correlation. That is because Phobias are very much like fingerprints: everyone has one, to some degree. The fear of pain/death fundamentally creates a 'phobia' around a given situation that can cause such a result.

Lets take car crashes. You can have a phobia about being in a car accident from being in one, from the anticipation of being in one or simply the awareness of being in a car somehow equates, in your mind, to being vulnerable. All three of those scenarios can trigger the exact same phobia but each wouldn't necessarily be understood or even could be treated in the exact same way. That's because the underlying impetus for the fear is different, leading to a different course of experience with regards to how the fear is understood.

And because phobias create such strong negative emotions, its very hard for the person to dig past that emotion to get at the heart of what the problem is. If the phobia is a precursor to an event, then the person can't begin to get significant treatment until after the event occurs because only after the phobia has been realized, to some degree, can it be handled. No amount of someone telling you to not be afraid of getting into a car is going to make a person, who's phobia is a precursor to an accident, deny their feelings. Because the more they are told to deny, the stronger the backlash is when the event occurs.

With regards to past lives, it is so easy for a person to create a convenient story to assuage their fear that it almost never actually is able to solve the problem. That's because even if a phobia is the result of a past life incident, its the result of a very specific past life incident that can only be addressed directly. In other words, if you were trampled by a horse while working on a farm, the details of your past life are as much a creation of that trauma as the horse itself. So any detail you 'create' out of ego or whatnot only leads you further away from the actual event that precipitated the phobia. What if your ego wants to create the idea of you trying to save someone and that is why you got trampled but the reality is that you were doing something you shouldn't and being trampled was the result. Your created version won't actually address the situation of the trauma and will actually get in the way of you getting treatment, even if you were correct about it being something related in a past life. Simply saying 'past life' doesn't excuse the details that fundamentally go along with that statement.

It is quite possible. There are deep rooted impressions on our subconscious mind which determine our personality in our current life. These impressions we carry from the past many births. The only way to overcome it is by doing spiritual practice. In the current era chanting is the ideal spiritual practice. Chanting is repetition of God's name. When we repeat God's name then we create a new impression and when this impression becomes strong then it overpowers the other impressions.

I died by drowning in a past life and I have no fear of water whatsoever. I love sailing and swimming in the ocean.

Just trying to justify your irrational fears.

In that case I was drowned in a vat of tinned chicken in white sauce by a spider who voted UKIP. Oh the horror.
