AKC is not "better" than CKC. People perceive this to be the case since AKC has been around a lot longer. Also, CKC registers mixed breeds as well as pure breeds. CKC does NOT just register "anything".. on the contrary, they deny registrations all the time. If a dog is not of proper breed type, it won't be accepted into the registry. CKC was not started by puppy millers who got kicked out of AKC, it was started by breeders who were tired of AKC and not having any other choice of registry. It's one of the biggest kennel clubs in the world for a reason.

Akc requires proper documentation to register a dog with them. Akc still doesn't automatically mean quality .. papers are only as good as the breeder. Akc exists for record keeping and pedigree database.

Ckc will register anything, just fill out the forms and pay the fee. Any dog with ckc is automatically questionable if its really purebred or not. This registry exists to put "papers" on dogs, not for record keeping.

Well, I don't like the AKC, but I also don't like the CKC. The AKC is definitely better than the CKC, because in all honesty, the CKC will register my left boot as a Doberman Pinscher, for all I care. They register anything and everything, and register everything incorrectly. They're also not knowledgeable on the individual dog breeds. They're only in it for the money.

AKC is a pedigreed registry. CKC was started by puppymillers that were expelled from AKC so they could say their puppies were "registered" send 4 pictures and if it looks like a duck, they'll register it as a duck.

A registry is just a registry. They all register poor quality dogs, so registration papers don't mean crap unless you have a good pedigree to go along with it.

As a retired pet groomer I have seen some really poor, poor examples of registered dogs. Most people think that if a dog is registered it has to be a good dog. Wrong!!!!!! It is the individual dogs pedigree that counts. The best examples I can come up with is the Poodle. legs too long, ears not properly set on head, over bites, under bites, poor coat condition (straight hair), nose color, short & stocky, tall & lean. I did some Poodle X's that had better coats than a registered Poodle.

There are a lot of junk registries out there that will register anything. Those you need to stay away from.

Because continental kennel club will register anything. They're worthless for anything at all since they don't even have to be purebred nor are any of the people more than backyard breeders breeding very poor quality dogs - no health testing, don't care about correct temperament, etc.

Well...they're not any better. You can register dogs that don't even exist with AKC. BUT.....CKC actually doesn't even TRY to look legit. As far as WHAT can be registered, basically the same. SInce I have GSD's, I can claim to have a litter and sell you a couch as a papered GSD with his pedigree...and trust me, the pedigrees are the top of the line. Be prepared for a couch with super drives!

Because the Continental Kennel Club would register a GOAT as a POODLE if you sent in the papers to do so. They do NOTHING to guard the purity of the breeds they register. Their papers aren't worth the paper they are printed on.

I love these answers. You guys act as if the AKC actually cares what you register, sick dogs, weak tempered dogs, unproven dogs, dogs missing parts, they are ALL welcomed by the AKC so long as you send them your money.

They are known world wide as THE joke of registries, same as all other ones.

    CKC is a scam.
