Why are student loans and higher education in general so expensive?

It has the effect of reducing US personal spending of Millenials as they struggle with student loan payments

    Demand. Because of population growth and several decades of being told that you cannot get ahead in life without a college degree, more and more students are trying to get in. And as more students get in, more facilities have to be built and more professors hired. All the private universities are profit-making entities, so with a captive audience, they just keep raising the price. In addition, the student loans have made it possible for a lot MORE students to attend college, compounding the problem.

    I think the student loan program should be restricted to state universities and colleges.

    It's modern day oppression

    They want the people to have as much debt as possible to insure that everyone keeps working jobs they hate do buy stuff they don't need and pay for "services" they never really wanted. If quitting your job over every little thing was such an option, then that makes it harder on the corporations.
