like most of coastal southern Maine. Tend to get big storms when they get them because of the moisture coming off the ocean. Tend to be not as cold as inland/upland because the ocean moderates it. A lot of storms that dump snow inland (sometimes quite a bit) will fall as cold rain along the coast, or maybe only partly rain. Depends on how cold it is. To give you an idea of the general effect, golf courses along the coast will tend to open a couple-three weeks earlier than inland. the ocean tends to keep things more temperate.
Snowy years can be really snowy, like the last couple years have apparently been. But the coast tends to miss a lot of the really severe cold that you would get upstate or elsewhere in northern New England like Vermont. Typically get a week or two of severe cold every year, but it is less cold than inland. But it tends to be a humid cold, which can seem more biting.
I grew up near Portland, a short way up the coast and I still have family there and lots of friends around the area. I now live inland/up north and we get a loss worse cold but less snow, generally speaking. The Appalachians do block weather somewhat. Storms tend to track along the coast or across inland north of the mountains and up the Saint Lawrence Valley. York is down on the coastal plain and gets the coastal weather patterns.
But when you say "York", there is a difference in climate between York-Kittery and the coast and not far upland in York County. Generally a lot nicer along the coast, weather-wise. warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.
