What's wrong with wearing a hat indoors?
So I was at the mall on a date with my crush and while we were walking, some lady tells me to take my hat off. She didn't say it in a very nice way and it sounded more like a command rather than a polite request. She just said "hey kid take that hat off". I just put the brim of my hat really low and walked away with my crush. Anyway I don't get it. What's the deal? My hat isn't some cheap, trashy hat. It's a brown, wool, fedora hat and its damn expensive. As a matter of fact, it's an official replica of Indiana Jones's iconic hat and it even has
an Indiana Jones pin on it. I know proper hat etiquette. I remove my hat in church or in the movie house. But in the mall? I don't think I'm hurting anyone by wearing my Indiana jones hat. What do you think? Is there anything wrong?

Good job not giving that woman an attitude. Proud of you!! Anyway, she's from a time when wearing a hat with a lady was insulting. Where a man always took his hat off as a sign of respect wherever he was. She's a product of a long-ago past. She's also got no manners & should mind her own business. Anyway....Hats are cool & make an excellent statement nowadays. Especially if you wore one of these really specialty hats to impress! She must've loved you in that hat. But the way you handled the situation is what really impressed your crush. Trust me. And... no worries. ←(・‿・┐)

This comes down to personal preference. Some believe that all hats need to be removed when an individual is indoors, regardless of the social setting. Others are more flexible and believe this only applies to certain situations (eg: church). Ultimately, you need to do what feels right for you.

People of her generation (and mine) were taught that leaving a hat on inside (and in the company of women) was rude and disrespectful.
It didn't matter where it was, inside, the hat was/should be removed. If no one has taught you that, I'm sorry.

Yeah... hat etiquette is pretty old school and irrelevant. I'm surprised anyone thinks it matters at all anymore.

I don't think you need to remove it in the mall. It's treated the same as a sidewalk in hat etiquette. You shold take it off if you go to class or see someone you know and talk to them. It's pretty archaic either way. Idk the reason tho
