How should a thermal expansion tank be installed?

I have seen tanks installed horizontally, I have seen tanks installed vertically, both above and below the pipes. Is there a wrong way to put these tanks in? As long as the weight of the tank is supported it seems to me that it shouldn't matter much.

    Watts says that vertical is preferred, but I doubt that it matters. The pre-charge does matter though. Here's some instructions:

    Follow below instruction ,tank should be installed in higher elevation than the water heater.
