Was Jesus born of David's line?
To be the promised Messiah and fulfil the prophecy he should be born of David's line.
This is passed down by the father's line.
But Jesus was born by artificial insemination...therefore... No father????
Maternal connection does not enter into consideration for succession to the throne of David which is passed on only through a continuous male line: "There shall not be cut off from David a man to sit upon the throne of the house of Israel" (Jeremiah 33:17); Biblically, the right of lineal privilege, that is, kingship and priesthood, are exclusively passed on through the male line

It is impossible to know if Jesus was born of David's line.
The genealogies in the gospels of Matthew and Luke are fabrications that were made to attempt to provide "evidence" that Jesus was born of David's line according to prophecy. The evidence for that is the fact that they contradict each other.
The writers of those two gospels each provided their fabricated genealogies as showing the descent from David through Joseph, which would have been according to the legal descent, since Joseph was the husband of Mary.
Since the genealogies are contradictory, some Bible apologists try to say that the genealogy in Luke is actually that of Mary. However, Mary is not even mentioned in that genealogy. If that genealogy was that of Mary, why doesn't her name appear in it?
That is especially relevant because Luke mentions Mary in the birth stories much more than Matthew does. For example, instead of Joseph, it is Mary who the angel appears to concerning the coming birth of Jesus. There are also several other narratives about Mary, indicating the importance that Luke gave her. In that case, why wouldn't he have mentioned Mary in the genealogy if he intended it to be hers?
In any case, according to Luke, Mary was Elizabeth's cousin (suggenes in the original Greek, which indicates a blood relative). Since Elizabeth was of the priestly tribe of Levi, Mary would also have been of that descent and could therefore not have been a descendant of David. That is, if you believe what Luke says.
It should be noted that Mary's name does appear in Joseph's genealogy in Matthew, where it states that Joseph was the husband of Mary.
Those who say that the genealogy in Luke is Mary's therefore have no basis for saying that other than wishful thinking.
See also my answer here showing that Luke and Matthew fabricated their birth stories of Jesus to show that Jesus was born in Bethlehem according to prophecy.
And see my answer here showing that Matthew fabricated the prophecy if the virgin birth.

Jesus was legally adopted (under Jewish Custom) by Joseph, Mary's husband, thus giving him ALL legal claim to the line of Joseph. Refer to the genealogy appearing in LUKE 3, which traces Jesus' LEGAL genealogy through Joseph, his earthly father.
But Mary was a full-blooded Jew, and so Matthew 1 traces Jesus' PHYSICAL genealogy through Mary, his mother.
Thus, Jesus is both PHYSICALLY from the line of David, and LEGALLY from the line of David, ending all doubt about his lineage.

Mary was from the line of David. It had to be this way for God to be the Father of Jesus. Man could not be the Father. Jesus was a holy spirit by holy conception, without the assistance or substance of a male man.

Mary is of the line of David and Jesus' step-father, Joseph, is of the line of David, so legally, Jesus is entitled to the throne. Jesus's Father is God and Jesus' throne is in heaven so again, Jesus is legally entitled to the throne since his throne is God as the Scriptures say.
