Getting a kitten use to having its belly touched?
Hi i'm getting another kitten from a animal rescue next week. My last cat died after getting hit by a car (I'm from england its considered normal to let your cat outside) My last cat hated having his belly touched most of the time and i was wondering if there is a way to get a cat use to having there bell touched. Would positive reinforcment work?

Mine love belly rubs. I got them used to being touched everywhere as kittens. Now I can clip nails, clean dirty bums, look in their ears, check teeth etc.

Its a natural instinct for cats to hate having their bellies touched. They are predators and have evolved to not let things touch their bellies where they could be injured while bringing down prey. I suppose if it's really important to you, you could spend time touching your cats belly and he might learn to tolerate it but if you want an animal that actually enjoys having their belly touched, get a dog.

Most cats will never like having their belly rubbed. It kind of scares them. Why not find out how it does like to be touched, and do that.

Every cat that I have ever owed and a few strays will roll onto their backs so you can scratch their belly. I they will let you know when to stop.

Very few cats like their stomach touched. When cats fight they try to rip open the stomach with their back feet claws. It's instinct to protect that area.
