Should Jehovah's Witnesses join Witness dating sites?

I've recently come across a few Witness sites portraying to be blameless and upright, but I know the sites aren't led by the Governing Body. Is it going against The Bible to join such a site?

We have been discouraged from using them, not necessarily because they are not run by the Governing Body (the organization does exist to help people find a partner) but because of the dangers of find we are becoming romantically attached to someone that is either not a real witness or whose spiritual qualifications have not been verified.

The bible says to "count the cost" before taking any action and to seek advice when one is not experienced so I would say that while it does not say these sites are wrong they could put the gullible and inexperienced in danger and you should be very cautious about how you use them.

You should talk to your local elders about this and do some research before you do anything.

Is it against the Bible or against the JW's? There is a difference. JW's won't approve of anything outside of their narrow, perverse viewpoint. The Bible doesn't take any such stance, mainly because the internet wasn't invented when it was written.

I think there is nothing wrong with people finding each other on a website. There will always be dishonest people, whether on a website or not. Even if you run a background check on every person you think you knew you still wouldn't have all of the information on someone. It's not like sins are visible for people to see and baptized JW's can still do un-Christian things. There are rapists, murderers, and thieves among the Jehovah's Witnesses. You always hear stories about pedophile elders; every week they are in the news for this or that crime.

That is rather a difficult questions to just say yes or no, to. Because for one thing: there tend to be more single sisters than single brothers and of course, they want to remain loyal to Jehovah and thus, unless they actually travel, they are more likely to stay single and thus, it is understandable that a dating website has been set up for witnesses!

However, it is very difficult because the facts are, that it is so easy to get caught up in the moment and think one is in love and jump into a relationship and then, troubles can very quickly occur.

So really what should happen is that couples should meet and spend time with each other, but with others around and actually, get to know each other before pushing forward.

I suspect that ones will have to make a decision to listen to counsel or go their own way.

The reason that those sites are dangerous, is just the same as any other dating site. The users "design" their information to be attractive and paints a pretty picture of being a "spiritual" person. Yes, just by claiming to be a Witness will allow anyone to be "one" on those sites.

It is just the same as here at Yahoo. There are fake "fill in the blank" here, some pretending to be atheists, Christians, transexuals, or whatever they want. No background checks, nothing to prove who anyone is.

And yes, the Governing Body would NEVER have anything to do with such a site, but has constantly warned about them.

Personally, my daughter thought she found the "perfect" brother on one of them, they got married and he turned out to be an abusive man, who hated her children, and only married her for her income. They are divorced now, and he went on to another woman, hopefully not another sister.

No, probably not. You don't know who someone really is on a site like that. I agree with Rick G, they aren't a good idea and the governing body is not going to approve of such a thing.

I am not fully aware what the bible says about such thing - I would believe there are many of that faith who use a particular dating site, I am sure Mormons use this sort of thing as well.
