I want to buy an Audi A3 before I retire, but I don't want to come across as a snob. Should I just get a Volkswagen GTI instead?

    If you really want the Audi and can afford it, go ahead and do so and don't worry so much about stereotypes. Just don't act like nor drive like a snob. But I agree with mccoyblues that the GTI stereotype isn't much different, but again, just don't behave in a way that helps advance it.

    If the Audi makes you look like you're a snob the GTI will do exactly the same thing.

    Personally I would rather own the VW. It's less expensive and it's just as fun to drive.

    Just don't behave like a snob. I seriously don't get why you're considering getting something sporty right after you said you wanted something confortable.
