He quit his role as UN Peace Envoy on his own volition, at least that's the official version of events. It's impossible to know what actually goes on behind closed doors. I think after 8 years his relevance as a political figure was probably being brought into question though, and the role he had was definitely centered around him being a UN figurehead. What he actually 'did' in his role as Peace Envoy aside from making appearances and giving speeches, I'm not sure.

How could members really know that ? I have high regard for Tony and hope he resigned off his own bat.
After he resigned as PM he was given the middle East role because of his success in brokering the Irish Good Friday agreement,but the middle east is different.

I don't know what he even did to get paid for the role. People are sick to death of him and his Wife. Still can't understand why he hasn't been tried as a war criminal. No doubt he has had a better offer money grabbing creep.

No he was offered an extended contract but resigned.

I read he was doing no good as a peace envoy....we only have to look and see what he left behind one big mess ...so yes he resigned.before he was sacked..
