Cat coughing, sounds like he may have a sore throat?

He's been acting like he has a sore throat this past weekend and now sounds like he's got some congestion.

He sounds exactly like me when I get a sore throat (always turns into an upper respiratory infection). The best cure for that for me is to just rest.

Do I take him to the vet? Do I just let him rest? Do I brew him some tea with honey and ginger? (That last one is a joke.)

He's still eating fine, just prefers to wet his food first and wait a while (does it himself).

Update:

Also, he can still meow, albeit not nearly as loudly or as long as he usually does (very vocal).

He's more snuggly, too. Not all that active, but very alert.

No discharge from eyes, nose is only just slightly drippy.

If you think he is sick, take him to the vet. The vet will be the one to make the call of what treatment he needs.

I can't imagine a doctor, human or animal, telling somebody that an infection would be cured with just rest. If he does have an infection he needs medication.
