  • Does anyone remember a satirical poem about a shower curtain?

I remember reading it almost a decade ago. Something about a guy taking a shower and the curtain touched him?

  • Can you get pregnant if your body is making too much progesterone?

It s late on a Friday and I can t bother my OBGYN with this question.

OBGYN suspects I don t make enough estrogen, and make way too much progesterone. The details of that are unnecessary, though; right now I m just curious if I could even get pregnant if I m not making much estrogen?

  • Do American credentials transfer over to Canada?

Hubby is a dental assistant. Would he be able to get a job in Canada without going through more schooling? We know how it works state to state, but not country to country.

  • Is it insulting to not invite a Muslim into my home?

Just on the basis that my apartment always looks like a tornado came through (2 kids under 5). She s a new friend and English isn t her first language, and I don t want to offend her , since she mentioned bringing over a sweet treat for me and my girls. She s a neighbor but lives in a different apartment building, so it d be more like, "I was in the neighborhood, and I happened to bake a cake" type of meeting, and I suck at keeping an orderly home.

  • Explaining to toddler when the girl you were expecting turns out to be a boy?

I'm pregnant, and like many pregnant women, I spend a lot of time Googling pregnancy-related things that likely won't happen.

Now, ultrasounds have told us to expect a girl, and so we've already named her and told her big sister about her and such.

But what if "she" turns out to be a "he?"

I couldn't find any info on Google about how to explain this to a toddler, and in the interest of being prepared, I'd like some answers.

How do you explain to a toddler that the baby sister they were expected to have is actually a baby brother (or vice versa)? Is it a struggle to get them to accept this after being told the opposite for months?

    Parents only, please. :)

  • Telling an older loved one they are being scammed?

I have an older friend whom I love dearly, but I am afraid she has gotten mixed up into a scam.

The guy is on Facebook and claims to work on an oil rig somewhere near Russia. He has already had her send a phone to one of his "children" in Ghana.

I don't know how to approach the possibility of him being a scam artist, because she seems really taken with the guy and she's had a string of bad health problems lately, so this is really the one thing she has going for her right now. But I don't feel comfortable knowing she's bought some random person she's never seen a phone (supposedly he has 3 kids but we've only ever seen a photo of one and it's not the one she sent the phone to).

How do I go about letting her know that she should maybe stop talking to this guy?

  • Dealing with no energy and a toddler?

I'm currently 29 weeks with #2 and have just about enough energy to schlep myself from the bedroom to the couch.

Blood tests don't show anything wrong, but 9 days out of 10, I don't have enough energy to really get involved with my 3-year-old. Add to that the fact that my asthma has gotten so bad with this pregnancy that I generally can't go outside without using my inhaler several times (am waiting on insurance to approve a new inhaler that will help me with this) and we're generally stuck inside all the time (daddy works until late).

I've been trying to work around this by having family come over, but they can't be here every day, and my poor child is nearly dead from sheer boredom (doesn't nap and we don't do TV all day).

What are some low-energy things we can do that don't require me to leave the house?

Just to add, we do read, but she prefers to read to herself (can't actually read, but it's the thought that counts).

  • How to "have fun" when you're not a "fun" kind of person?

My husband (been together 7 years) recently told me how he wishes he could have gone to Otakon. To me, Otakon is something you do if you're into cosplay, which he is not, and if you're not going to cosplay, you're wasting $100.

But he said he just wants to go to have fun, and it makes me feel bad because every time we've planned something remotely fun this year, we've had to cancel. Sometimes, it's because of the weather, like a freak snowstorm or 110 degree weather, but mostly, it's because I'm just too practical to justify spending money on something that isn't a bill.

But I really do love him, and I can tell he's getting pretty miserable. So what's something we could do together, just me and him, that isn't sex and won't cost $100?

  • Foreigner safety in Central America?

First, sorry in advance if this comes off as racist. That is not my intention.

I plan on teaching English courses in Central America in a few years (or Mexico, depending on whether I can convince my family to move to the border).

While I like to think I'm not high on anyone's "rape list," I am still concerned about my relative safety as a lone female in a foreign country.

My research has led me to believe that Mexican authority, at least, is pretty apathetic towards rape, and certain places are run by drug cartels. How much of this is true, I'm not sure, since it's really just me using Google and wading through racist tirades and articles about Donald Trump.

So I figured I'd ask here, where I could at least get some answers from someone who lives/lived there.

What's the relative safety of an American in any of the Spanish-speaking countries?

As a Black female, can I expect more, less, or the same amount of harassment as others, foreign or national?

Being that I will likely come off as single (am married, but I lose rings like crazy, and he's not likely to leave the country), what prejudices might I encounter?

  • Working as a dental assistant in South America?

I want to teach in Mexico, but we're expecting our 2nd child soon. I figure wait a few years and then go, living just on this side of the border and commuting to work. But say I can get a better paying job in, say, Peru. Hubs is a dental assistant, and he could pretty easily get his DANB certification transferred to another state, but another country?

  • When did the spelling of spanish numbers change?

When I learned Spanish in high school (not more than 8 years ago), the numbers 16-19 were spelled like this:

    Diez y seis

    Diez y siete

    Diez y ocho

    Diez y nueve

Now, I am studying it again, but the numbers are spelled like this:

Dieciseis (ignore lack of accent mark)

    Diecisiete

    Dieciocho

    Diecinueve

Can someone explain when and why it changed?

  • How to get cat to accept being inside?

My cat is semi-outdoors (yes he has his shots and is neutered and has his claws).

Today, there's a heat advisory (105 degrees), so he has to stay inside. But he does not WANT to be inside, and he will yowl loudly and lowly for 5 minutes at a time, rest for a moment, and start up again.

How can I discourage the meowing and get him to just accept being indoors for today?

  • Prepping an apartment for a person with cat allergies?

Our dear friend, who is extremely allergic to cats (among most everything else) is coming over for Thanksgiving. Obviously, this is pretty far away, but I like to be prepared.

We have two cats, so I want to know what specifically we'll need to do to minimize the chances of an allergic reaction. It's 50/50 on whether we'll be able to put the cats in the master bedroom, as we'll also have a new baby at the time and I kind of sort of really don't want them in the same room as my child's crib (currently only one of them is hardheaded enough to still come in there, and only when Dad isn't home). Unfortunately, this and the bathroom are the only two rooms with doors.

We may possibly put them in an animal hotel for the holiday if we don't work out the cats/crib situation (good chance we'll move the crib to sissy's room).

  • Cat coughing, sounds like he may have a sore throat?

He's been acting like he has a sore throat this past weekend and now sounds like he's got some congestion.

He sounds exactly like me when I get a sore throat (always turns into an upper respiratory infection). The best cure for that for me is to just rest.

Do I take him to the vet? Do I just let him rest? Do I brew him some tea with honey and ginger? (That last one is a joke.)

He's still eating fine, just prefers to wet his food first and wait a while (does it himself).

  • Is it possible for formula using and breastfeeding moms to discuss certain aspects of formula use without fighting?

I recently read an article on something called "formula privilege." Now, that sounds odd, but the statement made were mainly about the difference between moms using formula (developed vs undeveloped countries as well as rich vs poor and educated vs uneducated) and the practices of formula-making companies themselves.

To me, it reads as a decent article that addresses some serious issues. I would love to share it with one of my FB mom pages, but I feel like it would devolve into a poo-flinging contest. Which brings me back to my original question.

  • Who voiced Donald Duck in the episode where he gets a human voice?

It's one of the older episodes, where he's trying to sell brushes door-to-door and ends up buying these voice pills.

There's another episode where Donald finds an exact copy of himself (voiced by the same actor) and he convinces the guy to pose as him (Donald) to woo Daisy.

Both of these are in a compilation of older videos on YouTube, so I don't have names.

I'm just curious if the guy who does that voice is the same guy who does Donald's regular voice.
