How to get cat to accept being inside?

My cat is semi-outdoors (yes he has his shots and is neutered and has his claws).

Today, there's a heat advisory (105 degrees), so he has to stay inside. But he does not WANT to be inside, and he will yowl loudly and lowly for 5 minutes at a time, rest for a moment, and start up again.

How can I discourage the meowing and get him to just accept being indoors for today?

ignore him. When it isn't yowling, play with him. Don't play with him when he is yowling, that will reward him for doing something bad.

He should stay inside so when days are like this, he won't get extremely upset over having to stay in.

Play with him. Get a string and tie something at the end of it and just let him play with it for a good long while and poop him out.

    Keep the cat distracted
