Has there been a change in subject/verb agreement by those on television?

Is it just me, or has there been a change in the way people, especially pundits, newscasters, etc. use subjects and verbs?

I find myself wincing at the screen, hearing subjects that I believe are singular, used with plural verbs!

Either I learned it totally wrong, or there has been a change.

It's very common to hear errors in usage by newscasters, pundits, and even politicians. Presidents and governors tend to make the same mistakes the rest of the populace does, and not only in subject-verb agreement. TV personalities also persist in saying things like, "this is between my wife and I."

One does not have to use great grammar to be broadcast to millions. It's not just you.
