Should I play Pokemon Ruby or Pokemon Omega Ruby?
Hi there.
I have recently started playing the Pokemon Games. I started with FireRed and is currently busy with HeartGold. I was planning on playing Ruby next but seeing that Omega Ruby was released last year, should I go ahead and just play that? I'm unsure of how to proceed with playing now. Please suggest an order. It would be appreciated. Thanks

I have heard that in the story Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are more than just remakes of gen 3. Apparently they are later in the Pokemon timeline, but the story is extremely similar. The differences actually continue plot elements from X and Y involving Mega Evolution. In terms of Gameplay they are clearly Gen 6 so complexity is that of Gen 6. If you want to play it in gameplay order, you should wait. Since you have already started with remakes, you could just go ahead and play the Gen 3 Remakes.
Overall I would say the plot elements from gen 6 are the deciding factor. You should wait till after u beat play X and Y to play Omega Ruby and
Alpha Sapphire so u can understand them. I am actually waiting myself.
Suggest order to continue
1. Ruby, Sapphire or Emerald
2. Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum
3. White or Black
4. White 2 or Black 2
5. X or Y
6. Alpha Sapphire or Omega Ruby

hmm, well, Omega Ruby is three generations past pokemon Ruby, so the amount of pokemon in the game is vastly different, as well, there are new moves, and the fairy type to throw a wrench in the machine. I'd suggest playing Omega Ruby over Ruby, for the simple reason that it is easier to get used to the new system, than to go and play ruby, then be forced to adapt again to the new stuff.
Also, you can play online, and trade with others in OR, which makes it much, much easier to complete the dex, or just get pokemon you like.
the stories between the two are very, very similar, honestly there is very little separating them, aside from mega evolution and the post-game story (which is super awesome imo)
I'd suggest ORAS first, but it honestly can work in either order, just make sure you know the differences between the two if you wish to play both, that fairy typing really throws me off when I play old games now xD
