Atheists: why is it not enough to not believe in a God, but bash on him?

Atheists seem to bash on just the Christian God. I do not see any bashing a of Hindu gods, Egyptian gods, Aztec gods, or Greek gods. In fact, most of my atheist friends are the ones that are into fictional stuff like Pokemon, Magic the gathering, creepy pasta, and lord of the rings etc. but don't dare bring up "fictional" God or they get all defensive. Why enjoy diabolical myths (the creepypasta don't get me wrong I love Pokemon), but shun any idea of an all loving deity? *patrick star voice*: I don't get it.

Well, other Gods don't claim to be perfect. They're flawed. Although I do make fun of Zeus because he can't keep it in his pants. Also, there aren't a lot of reasons to bash those other Gods in this particular forum so while I would totally do it, it's often not relevant to the conversation at hand.

We "bash" him because you make claims like how your God is an "all loving deity"... usually after we stop laughing!

Remember kiddies, God loves you so much he created a special place in hell for you just in case you don't love him back!

As for your rant about fictional characters, we LOVE fiction... when it's treated AS FICTION. Imagine someone trying to claim that Pokemon were real and LotR should be taught in history and you might get an idea of why we think it's absurd.

Atheists: why is it not enough to not believe in a God, but bash on him?

All loving deity? Have you taken the time to actually READ the bible in its entirety or are you a cherry picking reader of said book?

Old Testament is filled with horrendous lessons on how to treat people. A god that kills almost everyone on Earth in a flood: that’s pretty crazy. A god that commands Joshua to murder all the women and children except for the young girls, who can be taken as sex slaves: That’s horrible. A god that condemns anyone who eats shellfish: what is that all about? And of course. The 10 commandments tell you that working on Saturday or saying god’s name without a good reason makes you a bad person in the eyes of god. God eventually goes into great detail about how to deal with cattle thieves, isolating women on their period, and which fabrics to wear at the same time; but nowhere in those ten commandments, or in the six hundred and three that come after it, does it say “Don’t abuse children,” or “Don’t enslave people,” or “Don’t rape.”

n the New Testament, you can pick and choose to find verses that sound nice, but who gets to decide which verses teach the moral lessons? When Paul says that a master should treat his slave well, why didn’t he just condemn slavery? Surely the “golden rule” would require that. When Paul says, “A woman should be quiet in church and not speak. She should learn from her husband.” is that a good moral model? When Jesus says, “If you don’t love me more than your own family, you don’t deserve heaven.” Is that the kind of god you want?

Atheists: why is it not enough to not believe in a God, but bash on him?

    - WOW, the same ignorant question asked for the 500th time this year. How about if you look up the answers to the previous 499 and discover that WE DON'T BASH YOUR FANTASY DEITY - just his psychopathic followers.

Atheists seem to bash on just the Christian God

    - No, just his idiot followers.

I do not see any bashing a of Hindu gods, Egyptian gods, Aztec gods, or Greek gods.

    - WE DON'T, those followers don't lie under oath in court, do not stand on street corners screaming about how everyone except them is going to hell. That thinking stuff really throws you doesn't it.

but shun any idea of an all loving deity?

    - We don't, just the psychopaths who follow it.

I don't make a habit of bashing things I don't believe in because I believe that everyone is entitle do their opinion, but in my experience people generally don't use the Hindu, Egyptian, Aztec, Greek, etc. gods to justify oppressing people or denying them equal rights like they do with the Christian/Abrahamic god - at least not where I live - so I think people see less of a reason to criticize the gods of other (non-Abrahamic) religions.

You are probably witnessing atheists who in from the U.S. where there is a constant pressure for them to conform to christian beliefs. So most of their demonstrations would be aimed at a christian audience.

They do not believe in any of the gods you mentioned. If you tried to coerce them to believe in any of these gods they would hit you with the same kind of reasoning.

As for bringing up Pokemon, Magic the Gathering, Creepy Pasta, or Lord of the Rings, not sure what you are doing there except for it being an ad hominem attack. The people you speak of may enjoy these things but they do not believe Sauron is real.

You don't see any bashing of other gods for two reasons:

You're not paying attention. Atheists don't believe in any gods.

Christians are far more likely than members of any other religion to get in our faces about their religion or to treat us badly because we don't believe.

Is anyone trying to force you to believe that Pokemon is real or telling you that you're evil and immoral for not believing it? I'm betting they aren't. That's the difference.

  • (Atheists: why is it not enough to not believe in a God, but bash on him?)

First off - I live in a predominately Christian country.

Second off - the Hindu's, Greeks, Jews etc .. don't bash us for being non-believers

Welp, when you constantly get bashed for BEING a non-believer aka atheist, then you deserve to have your imaginary friend beat up on.

We don't like being told that we're going to burn in hell for eternity, that we have no morals, that we secretly really do believe in this god but just don't admit it, that we have no purpose in life, that we should just commit suicide since we don't fear dying, that we have no love to give etc.. etc ... etc ..

When the Christians quit bashing us for not believing in their fairy tale then we MIGHT quit bashing your god. Until then you get what you give.

Well, everyone knows pokemon don't exist. Nobody believes in Pokemon... it's just entertainment. God, on the other hand, is like a big shiny pokemon that everyone believes in, which is annoying. Christianity is simply the most popular religion, and therefore the one people blabber on about the most. It's nothing personal.

Why do so many of the 'believers' want to force their religious 'beliefs' upon others, into schools and government?

If you want to present it, especially with no real evidence to support it, you should expect to get challenged on it...

BTW, you do understand that atheism applies to ALL gods, right, not just yours...

    IMHO

Why? Because Christians have become such a persistant nusiance, with their relentless unwelcome proselytizing and ceaseless attacks on scientific knowledge, that a negative response is both necessary and appropriate.
