You will find that most commanders are very supportive of their subordinates pursuing higher education during their off duty time-even attending college in residence and classes offered from those colleges near you. The rub only comes in at first in that any subordinate needs to be fully qualified in their job first and then later and performing that job up to the standards expected and meeting the requirements that the duty schedule puts on an individual.
I know many active duty individuals or knew many during my 34 year career in the military who went to college in residence who also were in the military. Sometimes there is some conflict there and then adjustments might be made or not made but as long as you are doing your job and doing it well and meeting all the other things that life in the military requires then they are usually pretty supportive.

Assuming you're active duty? You could probably take classes outside duty hours, but your chances of getting duty hours bent around a potential college schedule are slim. You should always bring up such interests to your chain of command, just the same.

commander doesn't allow you or not allow you
if your duty hours are such, that you have the time, you can do what you want in your off duty hours
they are not gonna change your duty schedule for college or let you off work to do it

Even if the units mission goes past 1700, you are still allowed to use your TA if the Co signs off on the paperworl.
