There's no such thing as a not pricey hotel in the middle of it all. Otherwise, everyone would stay there. Hotels in Manhattan are a minimum of $200-$250 at that time of year (more in the summer/around Christmas). So at least $1400 for 7 nights. If you want to spend less you're going to have to either stay in a hostel (little less romantic) or outside of Manhattan in Queens or NJ. For transportation for the week, take the subway and it will be $30 per person unlimited. For food, factor at least $50 per person per day. More if you plan on having nice meals. Everything else depends on what your interests are but most attractions are about $25 a person. If you like art go to the MET, if you like history go to the Museum of Natural History, and so on. The only things I recommend for everyone are Central Park, the Brooklyn Bridge, and seeing a Broadway show.
