I bought a house and small companies is mailing me about obtaining a copy of my deed?
I live in Maryland, bought the house 4/28. Last week, one company sent me a mail about obtaining a copy of my deed for a fee of $81. A day later, a company from California sent me a similar mail asking for $89. What's going on? Do I need to get a copy of my deed? And if I do, do I get it from these companies or from the county?

These companies are seeking to provide you with a copy of your deed for a cost. This is the same as getting a credit card application in the mail offering their services from their company.
You may decide to pay one of these companies to get a deed for you.
You may obtain a certified copy of your deed by going to the county recorder's office filing out the required forms or through the mail filing out the forms and requesting your deed. There is a small fee charged by the county recorder's office of perhaps less than $20.000.
You may go to the county's web site to find out the procedures and fees necessary to obtain a copyof your deed.
I hope this has been of some benefit to you, good luck.

These companies are all assuming you are too ignorant to know you can get a copy of your deed from the county court house for a couple of dollars, assuming you don't have one already when you signed the deed at closing.

Just go down to the courthouse and pay the $5 fee to get your copy. The companies you're getting mail from are looking to make a buck off you.

It is none of their business. Tell them so and hang up.
