If you make a doctor's appointment, you do so under the belief that you will be alive to keep that appointment. You cannot prove you will be alive yet you act as if you do know. A belief is an assumption of truth that you cannot prove but is necessary in order to accomplish some goal (such as seeing the doctor).

Beliefs are real in the sense that they exist, they are formed from the various extremely complicated physical reactions in your brain which gives you thought and consciousness, on the other hand, they are just beliefs unless they point to a true thing in reality, at which point they become knowledge.

You can believe all you want. But when you jump out of the plane, reality will hit you hard.
Beliefs supported by observable, testable evidence are more likely to match the reality then make believe and faith.

a belief for something unreal doesnt make that thing real
but a disbelief about something real doesnt make it go away

Sometimes they're real. I believe in the Gravity laws, so if you KNOW something, you believe it. And God is real, I believe!
