Could this hurt me?
I accidentally left a bit of milk in a reusable bottle overnight and it spoiled. I asked someone how to get the germs and the smell out so I could use the bottle again and they said to put some mouthwash in it and swish it around, then use more to disinfect the parts of the lid. I did just now and afterward rinsed it all off twice with warm water as thoroughly as I could. I'm not sure if I actually got it all out, because the bottle still smells a bit like the mouthwash. should I put it through the dishwasher before using it, or just rinse it a few more times?

Your mouth probably retains more mouthwash than your bottle did, don't worry, just rinse it well to try to remove the taste. If put in a dishwasher I would be concerned about the heater element damaging the bottle during the dry cycle, only put it through the dishwasher if the maker says it is dishwasher safe. (Contigo bottles aren't).

Wash it with soap and water--don't use MOUTHWASH! Yes, sometimes mouthwash has alcohol or peroxide in it--but it's not meant for human consumption--you don't drink it when you use it, so you shouldn't wash dishes with it. Wash your bottle in hot soapy water, then if it still smells like sour milk, fill the bottle with hot water and add a couple tablespoons of chlorine bleach--then let it sit for an hour or two. Then dump out the water and soap and bleach, and rinse it for five minutes with plain water.

Rinse again, but yeah, all the alcohol in mouthwash probably did good. Actually, I would have just used hot water and soap...........

All that is so much overkill I cannot believe it! All it needed was washing in hot water.

Eww! Could make you quite sick. Bad milk? And mouthwash is meant to be spit out, not drunk. Could lead to being fairly sick. Yuck!
