Is their such a thing as an obsession with emotion?

Most of the time, I find that I try to provoke feelings of love, happiness or even anger and sadness, and I don't know why. I Intentionally try to hurt (non-physically), or entertain myself all for the sake of feeling certain emotions. What I was wondering was, is their such a thing as becoming obsessed with feeling emotions? And could it end up damaging me in the future? Thanks.

Ah. I know this feeling. Music stirs it up quite easily for me, and I let it.

I feel like I'm addicted to the feeling, and its mostly because emotions are so intensely powerful when compared to any other daily experience, and therefore we need that emotional excitement to bring meaning to our existence.

I also think it makes most of artists out of most of us in the form of writers, poets, dancers, singers and painters. I don't think it will damage you if you learn to look objectively at yourself and your existence. Learning to shift from emotion to cold logic has been one of my saving graces. Possibly, this craving could be a source of inspiration for great works of art in the above forms or others, so don't run away from it either.

Actors go through the same thing and they often suffer breakdowns so cool it.
