Is LMP Racing in the F1 Class?
Are LMP and F1 in the same class? I know they aren t the same, with LMP being endurance and F1 being speed and handling, but are the two in the same class specification?

F1 is highest level of single seater (and many will say Motorsport in general) but LMP1 is the highest level endurance racing. I would say that in terms of categories, they are in the same level but F1 is known to be the pinnacle of all Motorsport

LMP1 is the highest level of endurance racing. Formula 1 is the highest level of open wheel racing. the cars are both fast but because of the different challenges with rules and how races are won, Formula 1 is much faster than LMP1.
for reference, take a look at the lap times at the famous circuit Spa-Francorchamps one of the tracks where both Formula 1 and WEC runs in. This track has both high speed and low speed sections demanding top performance from all aspects of the cars. aerodynamics, brakes, engines, everything is pushed to the limit here.
the fastest lap time from LMP1 at Spa last year was 2:01.198. the fastest lap time from Formula 1 last year was 1:50.511.
that difference of over 10 seconds is massive. and if you look at the fastest ever lap of Spa(because last years F1 are much slower than the fastest ever from 2004) which was done in a blazing 1:45.108 you'll see that Formula 1 are much faster than LMP1.
Both are at the top of their respective fields but because Formula 1 cars and drivers do not have to race for many hours as LMP does, they can reach much higher speeds.
