Should I squeeze the pus out of my dog's infected teat?

I took my momma dog to the vet today and was told she has the start of mastitis/milk fever/eclampsia (why are there so many different names for one condition) and when I got home, I was checking to see if her teats were still producing milk like told to do by my vet, and discovered yellow sticky pus coming from the teat she said to watch for. I've been applying warm compresses like instructed, and I've also been squeezing the pus out. Should I continue doing that or will it only make the infection worse somehow? I guessed that it would help get the infection out, but I don't know.

keep doing it. When a cow has mastitis often the only way to keep her from losing that quarter of her udder is to squeeze the pus out constantly. When a human woman has it, it's 'pump and dump' so, yes, I'm assuming you continuing to do that is the best course.

It sounds like you are seeing mastitis - eclampsia/mik fever is something else entirely. I'll add a link.

I can't remember expressing the gland when we had mastitis, the one time, to be honest but using a warm compress should get the teat working again, so the puppies can use it. If there is pus, I think you need a vet to take a look, advise and treat as needed. Or get back re treatment, if you have already had your vet look.

I don't think you should squeeze it at all. It is supposed to drain naturally. That's what the hot compresses are for. By squeezing some out, you are also making some of it back up farther inside.
