Is the general practice, to sell doors and door jambs together or can you buy them separately?
Also how much time for a standard bedroom door replacement?
I'm asking because my landlord charged me $126 for door and parts, and about $226 for labor!! Listed is 2 hours of inspection and 4 hours of installation, which I think are ridiculous, especially if the task is done by 2 maintenance professionals.

You can get prehung doors, which come as a door already mounted in a frame, you can buy the door bare, you can even purchase a door slab that you will then have to drill and mortise for hinges yourself. However you want to play it.
Two hours of inspection? That's a little crazy. I can tell you what's up with a door in 30 minutes or less, including time to demount the door (if necessary) and assess the state of the frame.
What did you do to the door that the landlord charged you for the parts and labor? The inclusion of that statement makes me think you should just eat the cost and count it as tuition on a lesson learned (at least, I hope you learned it).

Yes you can buy the pieces separately or as a unit. As a unit it is called a pre-hung door. If you include all of the time to get the door and then dispose of the old door then 4 hours might be reasonable but it doesn't take two people to do a door. I say that based on personal experience. Anyone with a bit of knowledge can do it by themselves.

hmmm: outer doors are often replaced in sets for a better fit, but a bedroom door shouldn't be a problem. Of course, owner wants the new door to as closely match others as possible.
Seems like a lot of money . . . but 2 guys? It would be $75/hr each in my area - so could have been worse.
Better yet - not to have needed to replace the door !

Two hours inspection is outrageous.
Shouldcnot take more than five minutes to check that the door closes and latches properly and is the right color.
the door itself is under $30.
Two guys should not take more than an hour to install it...

sounds cheap to me
a new door, plus installation, plus finishing, I would have charged 3 times as much
