How to install aftermarket CD player in 06 dodge dakota?
Tryin to install a CD player in my truck. Got dash kit an harness. However CD player will not turn on. Started lookin into it and the red wire on my aftermarket harness which is suppose to have power with key on does not have power. Turns out that red wire does not connect to anything on main harness from truck. The main harness has 2 wires that have constant power with or without key on. No other wires have power wit key on. So how does my stock radio shut off and turn on with the key???? How do I get the power to my CD player?? Run a wire to fuse panel?? I would think I should not have to do that. Help plz and thank you

Your stock radio is controlled by the vehicle's data bus---there's a data wire connected to the radio, and the vehicle computer tells it when to turn on and off. Your new radio can't use that system. You can connect the red wire to the power wire at the back of the cigarette lighter, or you can buy a more expensive adapter that works with the data bus system. If your Dakota was equipped with the factory amplified system (ie, Infinity) then you don't have a choice--you'll need the special adapter to make the stock amp work with the after-market head unit.

What harness did you buy? The cheaper one that does not work with can bus that provides the switch signal to turn on and retaines power. Either you buy the more expensive harness. Or to make the current harness work or you're gonna have to tap into something to turn your radio on.

You don't sound competent enough to do a good job. Go to a professional installer. It's worth the money.
