Why aren't more blacks atheist/agnostic?

When you consider that Christianity and Islam were used to enslave African people then doesn't it seem that the only way that we can revive black consciousness is to reject ideologies that were born out of the need to oppress others into narrow thought.

The West seems to be abandoning theology and focusing more on Science and Reason, but black people are still far behind. And there's no way that god can view people equally in his eyes because history has shown that blacks have consistently gotten the short end of the straw and whites are much better off. Thoughts?

Completely brainwashed. In the murder of the 9 blacks by Roof in church they are still praying and forgiving him based on a book that has been revised (tampered with). They didn't ask why Jesus didn't protect them or why they didn't stand up and tackle the "white" man, significant. Whites want them to love, forget and forgive. I was freed after listening to historian John Henrik Clarke on video

Religion is often the pretext to claim proper retribution for those who do wrong, in the absence of a good mean to ensure that your rights are properly addressed. People fall back on "god" hoping that they will be rewarded for all the abuse they endured; and the more abuse, the more reason to hope that there is a superior entity to make things right at some point.

Which is why religion will always be stronger among the oppressed people than for the others; they take their hope as wishful thinking.

The African American community uses church and religion as a community organizing principle to fight for civil rights. It's not going anywhere until racism and institutionalized oppression disappears.
