Question about gun laws. How do you feel about gun laws and the NRA?
So quick question, seeing as I am highly interested in laws and politics. Are there a lot of gun laws that are currently put into place or not? I ask that because I still see on the news tragedies happening where a psycho with a medical history is still able to purchase a gun. I know that there are laws put both in the whole country and in each individual state, but are there are a lot of laws restricting certain individuals from owning a gun or not? Like do they at least require a background check or something? Should there be more laws prohibiting and restricting gun ownership? Please explain.
And how do you feel about the gun laws and the NRA? Are you for making acquiring a gun more hard or against it? Would banning them help at all? I mean, people will always find a way to kill. We can't ban everything that's sharp and dangerous, right?

There are over 20,000 gun control laws on the books in the US, and none of them has ever done a thing to reduce violent crime. Chicago, and DC have the most strict gun control laws in the US, because of that they also have the highest murder rate of any city in the US. Vermont, Utah, North and South Dakota, and New Hampshire have the most relaxed gun control laws in the US, and also have the lowest murder rates in the US.
Although there are over 20,000 gun control laws in the US that does not reduce murder in the least, for some reason some people think that just one or two more gun control laws will fix everything. That old say by Albert Einstein makes a lot of sense here "Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results, is pure insanity".
The NRA is the greatest, and oldest civil rights organization in the US. The NRA is uniquely for the protection of our constitutional protected rights. The NRA unlike so many today isn't standing in a compromised position, and has to answer to no one. The NRA is a civil liberties organization standing stead fast for the protection of our constitutional protected rights. The NRA isn't partisan, or even bi-partition, but is doggedly focused on the protection of our individual constitutional protected rights, and one of those are the inalienable right that is protected by our constitution, and is the right to keep and bear arms.
Throughout its history, the National Rifle Association has led efforts to promote safety and responsible gun ownership.
"Would banning them help at all?" The US banned alcohol, and that brought in the Mafia, and thousands died, and people still drank. The US made drugs illegal, and brought on the War on Drugs, tens of thousands died, and illegal drugs can be purchased on any street corner, or any school grounds in the US today. If firearms were banned today the only ones that would have firearms are the criminals that they would be claiming they were banning them from, leaving the law abiding innocent people unarmed and at the mercy of the armed criminals.
Thomas Jefferson had something to say about that over two hundred years ago, he said: "The laws that forbid the carrying of arms .... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants. They serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."
That just skims the surface of how I feel about gun laws and the NRA, but I have no doubt you understand where I stand on this subject.
Thank you for posting such a good question.

I feel like gun laws are aimed (forgive the expression) at the wrong target. They are almost all aimed at the law abiding citizen, and it is the law abiding citizen that will follow them. Of course, we know the law abiding citizens aren't the problem, criminals are. And criminals will do what they always do, ignore gun control laws like they ignore others.
Take background checks for example. Us Law abiding folks will show our IDs, fill out the forms, pay the fees, submit to the check, and endure a waiting period if there is one. A criminal will simply buy one from another criminal or steal one. Or they'll hire some other petty criminal with a clean record to buy the gun for him using an illegal straw man purchase.
The NRA knows this. It's why it fights all these stupid gun control laws, because they are targeted at the wrong people. The NRA most certainly does support harsher sentencing laws for misuse of firearms by criminals, and that's as it should be.
The NRA is doing good work at protecting one of our most important freedoms! It's why I'm happy to be an NRA member and donate extra money to the NRA-ILA to fight for the cause.

First of all, gun related deaths are one of the smaller risks to the health and welfare of the United States Citizens. There is a one in six chance of contracting a fatal illness from a sexual encounter- but seldom does that cross the mind of some one who is about to hook up!
There are two primal instincts in mankind- one is for reproduction and the other is for self survival. Considering the liberals claim that humans do not have to control the secondary one (reproduction instinct is secondary to survival instinct) how can a person of reason suggest that the instinct for self survival can be negated.
The second part of the issue is this- the same test that would identify a potential psychopath would show that most of the liberals campaigning for additional gun control would be banned from ownership. This includes most of those that excel currently in politics (of both parties). Because gun ownership is like voting (the right of a citizen) it would seem that any potential psychopath should be also banned from voting and holding public office. Which might be a good idea- but hardly one most liberals would campaign for.
The reality of the situation is this- our current laws are the result of compromises made a decade or more ago. For the anti-gun group to claim additional compromises are needed is for them to admit they never bargained in good faith in the past. To compromise with a person who has not bargained in good faith in the past is only a sign of insanity. I am not insane!
The NRA is a supporter of the US Constitution, which is more then I can say for those who campaign against it. The same ones that want to add additional gun controls are the same ones that believe the first amendment allows too much freedom! The current drive for PC and the attempts to ban forms of freedom of expression (ban a Battle Flag) show why additional regulations are only a tool to remove freedom from the United States. The current use insults calling some one racist and/or bigoted only shows that these people also want to remove the word "United"!
History shows the Democrats have always been for gun control- they banned blacks from owning them. In some democratic states they banned other minorities from gun ownership. So now they have become an equal ban advocates because they consider all US citizens to be the enemy and or their slaves. To support this look at the number of democrats whose attitudes towards additional taxes is that it is already the governments money and the citizens should be grateful for what they are allowed to take home no matter how small.
No I don't belong to the NRA, because I believe in neither confirm nor deny. To join the NRA is to confirm.
Our government has always been as honest as the citizenship forces it to be- no government in the world is above exploitation of its citizens. To accept that any administration is worthy of blind trust is to seal the citizens doom!

The laws on the books are not being enforced.
You hear everyone cry that there should be a background check before selling firearms to people, frankly we all have heard it and agree. I'll bet you have never heard of this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Instant_Cri...
I have owned a firearm of some sort for 40 years and never had to shoot anyone. I support the 2nd amendment, so naturally I support the NRA.
Banning guns will do away with gun crimes just like banning drugs did away with drug crimes.

Guns laws do nothing to slow crime, and the NRA is not only the best, but also the oldest firearm organization.

Gun ownership is a right in the Constitution, so banning ownership is pretty much out of the question.
There should, however, be reasonable limits on the types of guns one can purchase and there should be universal background checks for all sales, with an effective national database of people who are disqualified from ownership for various reasons.

the problem with gun laws, they are almost always unenforceable. large capacity magazine ban- they cant actually ban these magazines, they can only ban the SALE. but if you bough a shitload of them before the ban, they are legal.
"assault weapons ban"- like magazines, any guns purchased beforehand are legal.
"gun free zones"- only work on people who actually obey the law.
background checks- only work on known criminals, and dont catch undiagnosed psychos.
the problem is gun laws lack common sense. they sound like really good ideas, but in reality crazy people and criminals dont obey the law, so they are almost completely ineffective.

I can own a gun if I am not a felon and Piers Morgan is a douche bag. If you thumbs me down you're a traitor to this country.

The NRA is an anti-American terrorist organization that has acquired great wealth and political power by keeping the maximum amount of Americans terrified for the maximum amount of time

Would banning them help at all?
No.
