Did my car ever come with factory remotes?

Update:

I just bought a used 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis GS, it did not come with any remotes. I bought some on line but none of the instruction helped me program the remotes. Were some cars sold with out that option?

    According to the first source, some of them had on-board programming but others had to be programmed by the dealer or an automotive locksmith.
