My Little Monster was based off of a manga, and when the anime was being made, the manga was still on-going, so it's not like they could complete the entire story, as it wasn't even finished yet. Also, most anime adapted from manga are made just to promote the manga.
If you liked it, I would really recommend reading the manga, because it goes way deeper into the story.
If you want another anime like My Little Monster, try Toradora. Toradora actually finishes the love story instead of leaving it hanging like My Little Monster. There's also Say I Love You, Lovely Complex, and Kimi ni Todoke.
