Primary or secondary teaching?
Hi,
I am currently doing a degree in human geography and will be going into my final year in September. I'm very confused about whether to teach primary or secondary. I love working with children and have helped out a lot at my old primary school as my mum works there but on the other hand I would love to teach geography but I am worried a little bit about controlling behaviour in a high school. I will be going back to my old high school for work experience in September to get a feel for it.
Does anyone know when to apply for the PGCE? Has anyone else been through something similar in deciding which one to go for? Please share your experiences!
Thank you x

Facing teenagers is like facing a room of wild animals, they smell fear and will act accordingly.
Until you feel mature and confident enough to manage a room of people suffering through hormonal surges, you will be a better teacher for young children.
Really engage in your student teaching in the high school and seek the council of more experienced teachers.
Teenagers are also on the cusp of expanding their world view from what's three feet in front of my nose to the rest of the world. To be a good teacher at this point is potentially to be remembered as an inspiration for the rest their lives. Bigger risk, bigger reward. Luck.
