Offensive to wear one of the Presidential candidates' T-shirts to the gym?

I'd like to wear one of the mainstream Presidential candidates' T-shirts to the gym (think Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, Hillary, Carly Fiorina- NOT Bernie Sanders, Donald Trump, etc.).

I go at 5:30am when the gym isn't really crowded, and I run and lift weights.

I wouldn't wear a political T-shirt when it's time for a general election since partisan feelings are higher, but OK to do so way before the primaries start?

I figure that people in the other party won't care since they're focused on their own candidates, and people in my party won't care because we're all friends at the end of the day.

So...is this OK?

Thanks.

If you even need to ask this you shouldn't be waering the t shirt at all. If you're committed to the candidate, you should proudly wear the shirt any time anywhere. If you're not, you should never wear it at all. There really isn't an in between. You will get comments no matter what, and no, it's not too soon for people to have made their choices as to likes and dislikes.

Freedom of speech gives you the right to wear the shirt. Only your conscience can prevent you from it.

  • Yes it's offensive.

The reason it's offensive is NOT because it references the candidate ... but because it references the obnoxious discourse that surrounds politics in this country.

People pay to be at the gym. If you were out doing roadwork or some similar public venue, then it would not be such a problem. At the gym ... don't do it. There is a "politeness etiquette" at real gyms; traditionally there is just too much opportunity for trouble with so much testosterone floating around (and I do mean "Test"). Noobs don't understand this but those who are long into the gym culture do. Otherwise, there would be violent fist-fights at the gym constantly. Observe the standards of politeness at the gym ... and one of them is not to 'be in peoples faces" and that includes with your political or religious beliefs ... including on shirts.

AND FOR THOSE PEOPLE who want to invoke the First Amendment here ... the Constitution is not going to help YOU when a couple of big guys with chipmunk cheeks, all pumped up and in a pharmacological bad-mood drag your whiny petulant butt outside and put their foot in it.

Observe decorum and politeness at the gym. All the rest of us appreciate it and will do the same.

Leave your "in your face" political shirts at home.

I know what I should say to you - you have the right to wear anything appropriate. But, the truth is, T-shirts are less acceptable when they make a statement. It's just a societal prerequisite that I don't agree with, but have often read about. "Statement tees are not acceptable, unless the statement says, 'Nothing'." :) That's my advice, however, personally I'd wear whatever I like that's not offensive.

If you care that much about what other people will think of your allegiance, you either don't really care enough to wear the shirt, or have real self-esteem problems.

If you want to be political and wear a shirt, do it. And of course it would be offensive to some. That's how politics is these days.

Offensive, no. Off- putting, perhaps. Frankly, I have to wonder about someone who would plan to wear this to the gym (especially if you expect you may cause offense). It isn't workout gear. You shouldn't be that concerned with what you're wearing. I suspect your real reason is a need for attention, and you may get it. So, if that's your goal, go for it.

P.S.- I do find it amusing that you think your fellow party members are your friends.

This comes down to personal choice and what is right for you. Unless your gym has a strict no Presidential Candidate tee shirt policy, you will be fine. What does it matter what somebody else thinks about your tee shirt? I assume you are in the gym to work out and lift weights, not for fashion etiquette or political discussion.

It's called FREEDOM OF SPEECH, m'dear. If anyone is offended, that's THEIR problem, NOT YOURS!

    Have a polite day.

Etiquette takes over where laws end.

People judge you by the candidates you endorse. Be very careful of what statement you want to convey, because you could make a lot of enemies.

Get a t-shirt that says "Think before you vote this time!" and wear that. Maybe eventually people will get the message and take their heads of their a$$es before they vote.
