Military Police is a job description.

Military Police Officer is a person in the Military Police.

  • i assume you're from US.

there, police officer is the random trooper. in the military on the other hand, OFFICER means commander of some sort, lieutenant and up. so, MP officer is the commander / staff member responsible for other, ENLISTED and subordinate officers, ALL of which are working in the military police job.

same like in THEATERS, you are supposed to see LIVING actors, not moving pictures

edit.. oh, Australia.. don't you use COP for a regular policeman? you SHOULD understand the meaning of the officer word.
