Is there anyplace in the Bible that says God gave us a soul?

Genesis 2:7 says Adam became a living person, not that God gave him a soul.

    Man and his LIFE are the soul...the person himself..."and man became a living soul..."

    The soul IS the person, it can and will eventually die, and "sleep in death..."

    Read Gen Chapter 1-3 --very educational!

    There are hints in various places about how the bestowment of souls actually works in this mythology, but there aren't any definitive answers. There are places that imply that God creates a soul for every person, and there are other places that would seem to refute this. There are places that imply that God started the ball rolling with Adam and then set up the process so that reproduction automatically "grows" or "pops out" a soul along with the baby, and there are other places that would seem to refute this as well. The mechanism by which we are given a soul wasn't an important idea when the various books of the Bible were written, just the fact that people have one.

    Is there anything in the Bible that does not stimulate the soul to think? Nope not a thing. Everything in the Bible is specifically so that the soul would use its ability to understand things and survive with a better life.

    Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

    I won't try to answer this one. In order to give a truly intelligent answer, one would have to read Greek, Aramaic and Hebrew (the languages of the Bible) in order to compare the uses of words. Even then, it's hard to tell, what people may have meant by "spirit" or "soul" compared to later people.

    You need a better translation. The words are 'and Man became a living soul'.

    Ecclesiastes 12:7 describes death by saying 'the dust returns to the earth as it was and the spirit returns to God who gave it.'

    it says God MADE us souls

    soul = body + spirit

    Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

    and man became a living soul. See, became a living soul, he was not given a soul. It would have read, God gave him a soul. Adam became a soul.
