I asked a question on Boats & Boating page, but it appears in another category - how did this happen ?

It doesn't really matter on which page you ask a question, it won't automatically categorise it to that section
e.g. if you are on the Boats and Boating category page and ask a question but the keywords in that question dictate it should be placed in e.g. the Cars category then it will place it there which is one explanation. Auto categorisation works based on keyword searches and not on which page you are on at the time of placing a question
The other, as mentioned is the question did get auto-categorised in the Boats & Boating section (based on the keywords compared with history), but that a Level 7 user decided to move it to another one, either to help you (as their option is that it would get better answers from there) or did it for other less honest reasons.

Yahoo has allowed level 7 users to move questions into categories where they may get better answers and one could have moved yours. You are able to move it back using Edit.
Look below question and hit edit then edit category. Once you find the category subcategory hit that and submit.

As level 7's have the ability to move questions into other sections, one moved yours there. You can move it back by clicking Edit and selecting Edit Category.
