OHIO is restrictive on use of rifles for deer hunting, you can use straight wall pistol cartridges in certain lengths, shotguns and muzzle loaders. This is a useful place for the Henry's and Ruger rifles in 44 Mag,similar choices, but don't bring out your 30-06 ...

Look in the "Can and Can Not" section

EDIT: H&R Handi-Rifles come in 44 mag,Ruger M77/44,Rossi, Henry's,Marlin make rifles in 44 mag or 357 Mag. You could use a 20 gauge shotgun with a slug barrel then swap barrel for dove season, same with a 12 gauge ans use for waterfowl/turkey. Any "modern" cartridge from 223 to 308,etc are just deemed too dangerous to use in flat areas and small plots.

Each state makes their own decision on which rifles are allowed to be used during hunting seasons. Without knowing which state you are in, there is no way to answer your question.

Where I live, the same as last year, any .22 centerfire or larger. We also have to use expanding bullets. But I don't know where you live, so I have no idea what would be legal for you.

If you intent to hunt then you need a hunter safety course, a hunting license, and you need to read and be familiar with the hunting regulations in your state.
